At the Grand Shrine of Ise, the ritual rebuilding of the sacred halls—every twenty years—is carried out with timber blessed by the gods. The pale grain of the wood, the crisp scent it carries, radiate a quiet divinity—a sense of renewal, of life made luminous. And yet, in contrast, there is also beauty in age—the worn hues of an old temple, the weight of stillness, the depth of a fragrance shaped by passing time. Both newness and age offer a kind of fullness. Both lead us inward. Such sacred presences, whether radiant or worn, stand with quiet dignity—sometimes guiding, sometimes embracing. The scent called Yang—陽—was created with these moments in mind. A time to bring purity into the everyday. A time to tend, to care, to reawaken a soft and steady brightness. Not noise, but light. ■「情景を想い起こす香り作り」 世界は香りで溢れている。自然は四季折々、その瞬間を切り取った香りに出会わせてくれる。無数の香りの重なりは天候等の条件によって様々に変化を遂げる。翌年の同日に同じ場所を訪れてたとしても、再び出会うことは叶わない。一期一会の自然の恵みである。香りは過去の記憶を呼び起こしたり、想像力を豊かにしてくれる作用があり、東洋においては清らかな心を想起させる尊ぶべき存在として位置付けられてきた。陰、陽、整の三つの香りは、それぞれ茶の木、檜、苔を軸に調香され、全て自然由来の素材から成る。ひとたび火を灯せば、そのテーマと香りに導かれるようにして、心の奥底にある情景を呼び起こすきっかけをももたらすだろう。 "Creating scents that awaken scenes within" The world is full of fragrance. Nature offers them freely—in fleeting moments, across the changing seasons. Each scent, a reflection of its time—shaped by temperature, by wind, by rain. Even if I return to the same place, on the same day a year later, the scent I once knew will not be there. It is nature’s way—an offering that arrives only once. Fragrance has the power to stir memory, to awaken imagination. In the East, it has long been held as a sacred presence—a symbol of purity, a call to stillness of the heart. Three scents—In, Yo, and To. Each composed around a single essence: tea tree, cypress, moss. Each drawn entirely from nature. When flame is brought to them, something opens—a passage. A mood. A memory. As the scent rises, I find myself guided—not by thought, but by the quiet unfolding of a scene within. ■「心の鏡となる煙の姿」 利便性や安全性を優先してきた現代においては、煙に触れる機会は限られている。それでも、都市部を抜けた自然に近い暮らしの中では、まだ目にすることが出来る。何も考えずに眺めていると、不思議と気持ちが安らいでいく。東洋では煙から心を感じるという考えがあり、人々は目には見えない心を煙の姿に重ねた。同じ姿は二度となく、変わりながら消えていく。消え去った後に残された間を、香りと共に、余韻として感じ取る。美しさには儚さが伴う。線香という名に、煙が清らかな線を描き、香りをもたらすという意味を込める。一日の中のある一時、線香を眺めるという習慣を作ってみる。 香りを楽しむに留まらない気付きや豊かさは想像以上だろう。 "Smoke, as a mirror of the heart" In this modern age, where convenience and safety are prized above all, my encounters with smoke have grown rare. And yet, beyond the cities, in places closer to nature, I can still see it. When I stop thinking, and simply watch it rise, I feel myself begin to settle. In the East, there is a belief: that one can feel the heart through the form of smoke. The unseen inner world—reflected in what drifts and dances before the eyes. No two shapes are ever the same. They shift, they vanish. And in their disappearance, what remains—is space. A stillness, a lingering trace that carries both scent and silence. All beauty holds a touch of impermanence. Even the word incense speaks of this: a fine line of smoke drawing itself into the air, carrying fragrance as if from some other world. Perhaps, for one small moment each day, I might simply sit, and watch the incense burn. Not only to enjoy the scent—but to discover, perhaps beyond my expectations, a quiet kind of awareness.
